Venice AI: Image Generation Showdown

We put 10 Venice AI image models—from free SDXL checkpoints to premium models like Flux 2 Max, GPT Image 2, and Grok—through a brutal 3-prompt stress test. No cherry-picking, single-shot results. See which model actually wins on value.

Venice AI: Image Generation Showdown

Venice AI has a plethora of image generation models available, ranging from simple SDXL to heavyweight SOTA models from OpenAI and Google.

We're going to compare several models across 3 prompts: Text & Layout, Realism & Micro Texture and Spatial Logic & Prompt Adherence.

The Model Lineup:

  • Lustify V8 (SDXL Checkpoint) - Free with Venice Subscription/$0.01 via API
  • Chroma - Free with Venice Subscription/$0.01 via API
  • Venice SD3.5 - Free with Venice Subscription/$0.01 via API
  • Z-Image Turbo - Free with Venice Subscription/$0.01 via API
  • Qwen Image 2 Pro - $0.09 per image
  • Grok Imagine High Quality - $0.08 per image
  • Flux 2 Max - $0.09 per image
  • Hunyuan Image 3.0 - $0.09 per image

All tests were done in square 1:1 aspect ratio, using default settings in Venice. Every image was single-shot (No retries), so no cherry picking here.

Text & Layout

The Prompt:
A minimalist, vintage-style travel poster for a fictional city named "NEON OASIS". The poster features a bold, clean typography title at the top that reads exactly "NEON OASIS". Below the text, a simple vector-style illustration of a single glowing green cactus against a dark purple desert night sky with a massive crescent moon. The colors are strictly limited to neon green, deep purple, and cream white. No gradients, flat colors only.

Z-Image-Turbo
Qwen Image 2 Pro
Grok Imagine High Quality
Flux 2 Max
Hunyuan Image 3.0
Nano Banana 2
GPT Image 2

Subjective winner:
Nano Banana 2 came out on top for nailing the "Travel Poster" vibe, although I will note it added additional text that wasn't asked for.
Lustify V8 wins among the value models.
GPT Image 2, while respectable, was the most expensive and took over a minute to generate.

Realism & Micro Texture

The Prompt:
A macro, tight close-up shot of an elderly artisan's hands meticulously carving a small wooden chess piece on a cluttered workbench. You can see distinct wood grain, fine wood shavings on the table, and deep wrinkles and skin texture on the hands. Warm, directional workshop light hits from the side, casting deep shadows. Shot on 100mm lens, photorealistic, shallow depth of field.

Qwen Image 2 Pro
Grok Imagine High Quality
Flux 2 Max
Hunyuan Image 3.0
Nano Banana 2
GPT Image 2

Subjective Winner:
GPT Image 2 arguably comes out on top this round, nailing the fine details of the hands and workspace.
Nano Banana 2, Hunyuan Image 3.0 and Grok Imagine High Quality are all strong contenders for the cost.
While none of the value models nailed the "carving" portion, Z-Image-Turbo and Chroma offer the best realism.

Spatial Logic & Prompt Adherence

The Prompt:
A cozy, modern living room on a rainy day. In the foreground, a large orange tabby cat is curled up sleeping on a green velvet armchair. On a wooden coffee table next to the chair sits a steaming ceramic mug and an open paperback book. In the background, a large glass window shows rain streaks with blurry city lights outside. Cinematic lighting, cozy atmosphere.

Subjective Winner:
Chroma wins for the best value option, nailing realism and prompt adherence at an incredible cost.
Qwen Image 2 Pro, Flux 2 Max and Nano Banana 2 threw some strong punches.

Conclusion

As with all image models, there's pros and cons. If you're looking for the absolute cheapest option, Chroma and Z-Image-Turbo are strong choices. If you don't mind spending a bit more, Nano Banana 2 offers a good balance of quality and cost.

It's also worth noting that not all of these models are tuned for the task. Lustify V8 is primarily a NSFW model. Venice SD3.5 is more of an artistic model.

Hopefully these comparisons help you choose the best model for the task at hand.
